How to calculate your free shipping threshold

"the logic I require is order $75 and above to have FREE delivery"- Support forum

This is a common question from small food and retail sellers who deliver and want bigger orders. For example, free shipping above a certain amount gets customers to order more, but the fee on each order now depends on its total. A Google Form cannot check the total, so you cannot make the fee drop to zero by itself. With Neartail, you can use the IFS function to set the delivery fee to zero once an order crosses your amount. Your customers will see the fee and the amount to be paid before they submit. Even better, they see it as they pick, so they can add one more item to reach free shipping.

Let's start. Create your order form and follow the steps below.

How to calculate shipping fees based on order amount?

  • On the page that opens, click "Enter your form name". Type your form's name, click Generate and wait about a minute.
  • Check the outline it suggests and click Proceed.
  • Once you create the form, you will land on the form's "Edit" tab. If it asks "Do you want to preview this form?", click No.
The tabs Edit, Preview, Share and Orders, with Edit marked
  • Your form comes with products, an Order Amount question that adds up by itself and an Order Quantity question. Click on each product and check its name and price, because a generated product can have no name and a price of 0.
  • Click on the Order Quantity question, then click Add price field in the toolbar on the right
The form in the editor, with the Add price field icon marked in the toolbar on the right
  • Add price field screen will be displayed. Select Delivery Fee and click Next
The Add price field list, with Delivery Fee selected and Next marked
  • Check that Insert after says Order Quantity. If it does not, click the pencil and select it or the field will land where you last clicked, which can be in the middle of your products
  • Select Fixed amount and click Next

Use IFS function to set shipping costs based on order amount

IFS function evaluates multiple conditions and returns a value that corresponds to the first true condition. The syntax for the IFS function is:
IFS(condition1, value1, [condition2, value2, …])
where
  • condition1 - The first condition to be evaluated.
  • value1 - The returned value if condition1 is TRUE.
  • condition2, value2, … - Additional conditions and values if the first one is evaluated to be false.
Standard shipping fee
If the order amount is greater than $500, shipping fees will be zero. Otherwise, a standard fee of $25. TOTAL() is the order amount.
IFS(TOTAL() > 500, 0, 25)
Shipping fee based on the delivery zone
Instead of standard shipping fee of $25 for all orders below $500, we can use the FEE function to calculate the shipping fee based on the zone selected by the user. First add the question as in How to calculate shipping fees based on delivery zones?, then type @ to pick it.
IFS(TOTAL() > 500, 0, FEE("$", Choose the delivery zone, 10, 15, 12))
  • Field settings screen will be displayed. Select the "Answer" tab and write the formula to calculate the delivery fee based on order amount. Click Save
The Answer tab of the field settings with the IFS function, giving a zero fee above 500 and otherwise a fee of 25 in the Calculate box, with the Answer tab and the box marked

How to show the amount to be paid?

Add a Net Amount price field. It adds the Delivery Fee to the Order Amount by itself. Without it, the fee shows on the bill but your customers are not charged for it.
  • Click on the Delivery Fee question, then click Add price field. Select Net Amount and click Next
The Add price field list, with Net Amount selected and Next marked
  • Check that Insert after says Delivery Fee. Select Standard calculation using NETTOTAL() and click Next
The Net Amount settings with Insert after Delivery Fee and Standard calculation using NETTOTAL() selected, marked with Next
  • Click Create
  • Field settings screen will be displayed. Click Save
The Standard calculation box with NETTOTAL() and the Create button marked
When an order crosses your amount, the Delivery Fee goes to zero on the form. Your customers pay the Net Amount.

Summary

If you offer free shipping above a certain amount, a Google Form cannot check the total and change the fee. With Neartail, you write the rule with the IFS function and the delivery fee goes to zero when the order amount crosses your threshold. Create your order form and complete the steps above. If you have any questions, write to support.
