How to create automatic discounts based on order amount or order quantity?

This is a common question from small food and retail businesses who want customers to order more. For example, you might give a discount once an order crosses a certain amount or quantity. A Google Form cannot work out a discount from the order, so you check each order and take the money off by hand. With Neartail, you can use the IFS function to apply a discount based on the order amount or order quantity. Your customers will see the discount and the amount to be paid before they submit. Even better, each order reaches you with the discount already taken off, so you have nothing to check by hand.

Let's start. Create your order form and follow the steps below.

How to add a discount to your order form?

  • On the page that opens, click "Enter your form name". Type your form's name, click Generate and wait about a minute.
  • Check the outline it suggests and click Proceed.
  • Once you create the form, you will land on the form's "Edit" tab. If it asks "Do you want to preview this form?", click No.

  • Your form comes with products, an Order Amount question that adds up by itself and an Order Quantity question. Click on each product and check its name and price, because a generated product can have no name and a price of 0.
  • Click on the Order Quantity question, then click Add price field in the toolbar on the right

Discounts based on order quantity

You can use the QUANTITY() function to calculate the total order quantity and apply the discount. For example, if you would like to offer a 10% discount on the total amount for orders of 10 or more items, then you can use the following formula.
IFS(QUANTITY() >= 10, TOTAL() * 0.10, 0)
  • Field settings screen will be displayed. Select the "Answer" tab. Write the formula in the Calculate option as shown below and click Save

Discounts based on order amount

You can use the TOTAL() function to calculate the total order amount and apply the discount. For example, if you would like to offer a 20% discount on the total amount for orders of $100 or more, then you can use the following formula. To use it, click on the Discount question, click the ⚙️ icon and select the "Answer" tab. Write the formula in the Calculate option in place of the other one and click Save.
IFS(TOTAL() >= 100, TOTAL() * 0.20, 0)

How to show the amount to be paid?

Add a Net Amount price field. It takes the Discount off by itself. Without it, the discount is not taken off what your customers pay.
  • Click on the Discount question, then click Add price field. Select Net Amount and click Next

  • Check that Insert after says Discount. Select Standard calculation using NETTOTAL() and click Next

  • Click Create
  • Field settings screen will be displayed. Click Save

When an order reaches your amount or quantity, your customers see the Discount and the Net Amount change on the form. Your customers pay the Net Amount.

Summary

If you offer a discount on bigger orders, a Google Form cannot work it out from the order. With Neartail, you write the rule with the IFS function and the discount comes off by itself when the order reaches your amount or quantity. Create your order form and complete the steps above.
