How to let people choose their approver?

"How to allow user to choose who Approval should go to"- Google Docs Editors Community

This is a common question from Google Forms users whose request has to go to a different approver each time. For example, you run a leave request, each employee has a different manager and the request has to reach the right one before the leave starts. Google Forms only notifies its owner and editors and keeping one form per manager is a lot of upkeep. With Formesign, you can share one leave request link and each employee enters their manager's email after signing, so that manager gets the request to sign. Even better, you keep one form, so there's nothing to update when someone changes manager.

Let's start. Create your form and follow the steps below.

1. Create your leave request

Click on Create your form, click Enter your form name, type Leave request and click Generate. It takes about a minute. Check the outline and click Proceed. If the form has a required question you don't want, such as an upload, click it and turn Required off.
The Enter a name to create your signature form screen, with Leave request typed in and the Generate button marked

2. Add the approver as a role

  1. You land on the EDIT tab, where the Add eSignature dialog says Your signing link is ready. Close it.
  2. Click the pencil on the Signature workflow card.
  3. The AI picks the signers from your form's name, so in Setup workflow, type over them so that they read Employee and Approver, delete any others from their three dots and click Next.
  4. Close the Your signing link is ready dialog. You type a role here because the manager changes from one employee to the next.
  5. Then click Configure key fields (the notebook icon) in the last After page row and check Get name from and Get email from. They can start on the wrong person and the request email and the certificate use them, so set them to the first signer and click Save.
The Setup workflow drawer with Employee and Approver under To be signed by and Approver and the Next button marked

3. Share the link

Each signer starts on Google Sign-in. If your staff have no Google account, click each signature field and click Not required beside Verify identity. Click SHARE, click Copy and send the link to your staff.
The Share via card on the Link tab with the signing link and the Copy button marked

4. They enter who approves

After signing the leave request and clicking SUBMIT, the employee sees Enter the approver's email. They type their manager's email and click Proceed.
The Enter the approver's email dialog with ana@example.com typed in and the email box and the Proceed button marked

5. Their manager gets the request

A few minutes later, the manager gets this email and clicks Review & sign. The answers aren't in the email. They read them on the form, sign and click SUBMIT.
The email to ana@example.com with the subject Approver - Approval request from Sam - Leave request #1 and the Review and sign button marked

Summary

If each employee's leave request has to reach a different manager, Google Forms can't send it there and one form per manager is too much upkeep. With Formesign, you share one link, each employee enters their manager's email after signing and that manager gets the request to sign. Create your form and complete the steps above.
